Macauley Culkin

Macauley Culkin

Entertainment Tonight posted photos of Macauley Culkin the Home Alone star, 31, in New York on Wednesday, decribing him as "extremely thin and scruffy." The photos prompted celeb watchers' tongues to wag.
But he's fine. "Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health," his publicist says. "For Entertainment Tonight or any other media to speculate otherwise is thoughtless, irresponsible and destructive."

Ellen DeGeneres' JC Penney

Ellen DeGeneres' JC Penney

The controversy over Ellen DeGeneres' new appointment as JCPenney spokesperson seems never ending.
On their Facebook page, the One Million Moms posted that JC Penney was "jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon" and that "the majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there."
In the midst of the conservative One Million Moms group bashing department store JC Penney for making her their new spokesmodel, Ellen DeGeneres continues to be a role model for diversity and equality everywhere.
Johnson, who stated once again that his company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres, spoke to "CBS This Morning" about an online boycott of his Texas-based retail chain by anti-gay group One Million Moms, a division of the American Family Association, who say they want the talk show host fired because she is a lesbian.
Coming to the 54-year-old's side, Ron Johnson, JC Penney's CEO, gave his statement, supporting both DeGeneres as the company's celeb spokesperson and their stance on the protests.

Steve Jobs's FBI file

Steve Jobs's FBI file

The Federal Bureau of Investigation just made public its background check on Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The agency assembled the investigation in 1991 because Jobs was being considered for a presidential appointment by George H.W. Bush to the President’s Export Council.

In the FBI documents released Thursday, many of those who knew Jobs praised him, speaking highly of Jobs’ character and integrity and asserting that he always conducted his business dealings in a reputable manner. They recommended him for a post during the George H.W. Bush administration.

Safe House

Safe House

Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington. Rated R.

A young CIA agent assigned to look after a fugitive in a safe house finds himself on the run with his charge when the house is attacked.
Reynolds is perfectly acceptable as a CIA upstart in over his head, though he’s far less convincing following his transformation into a standard-issue action hero, equal parts super-spy and overgrown Boy Scout. Thanks largely to Washington’s sly performance and Daniel Espinosa’s taut direction, Safe House gets off to a strong start, but the tension slackens halfway through and never recovers.

Lake Vostok

Lake Vostok

Russian scientists have penetrated the surface of Antarctica's largest subglacial lake, after over 20 years of drilling through two miles of glacial ice.

Lake Vostok may contain the unique lifeforms, which hasn't been touched by light in millions of years, has been a target of scientific exploration because of it.
The Russian effort has created scientific excitement about potentially learning some of the long-held secrets of the largest subglacial lake in Antarctica, a body of water that wasn’t discovered until the mid-1990s and is the world’s third-largest lake by volume.
While many scientists are eagerly waiting for news about the piercing, many do not see substantial scientific data coming for a long time. Contamination remains an issue, as does the nature of the lake below.
Russian researchers plan to continue exploring with robotic equipment that will collect water samples and sediments from the bottom of the lake, a project still awaiting the approval of the Antarctic Treaty organization.

The Bourne Legacy

The Bourne Legacy

There was never just one — you just didn't know that the other one was played by Jeremy Renner!

Well, now you do, especially with the release of the first teaser trailer for "The Bourne Legacy." Renner makes his entry into the spy drama franchise following the exit of long time lead Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, but Jason Bourne he is not: this is Aaron Cross, a new breed of amnesiac assassin who has his own share of grudges to make right.

Cool teaser. For a movie that I was not at all sure about before today, I am suddenly looking forward to "Bourne Legacy" a whole lot more.

"The Bourne Legacy" stars Renner, Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen and Albert Finney. It storms into theaters on August 3, 2012.

Filming for "The Bourne Legacy" had been ongoing in Metro Manila since January. Several of the filming sessions had caused heavy traffic. Producers of the upcoming spy thriller "The Bourne Legacy" expect less traffic problems for motorists in Marikina City on the second day of their filming there.

Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin

Knicks' Jeremy Lin reprises breakthrough, gets best of Wall.
Jeremy Lin first made a name for himself in NBA circles in the 2010 Las Vegas Summer League.

The Washington Wizards fell victim to the Jeremy Lin show. Lin showed the world again why he's legitimate, and the Knicks completely picked the Wizards apart in the pick and roll in winning, 107-93.

It ended up being one of the most embarrassing losses for the Wizards all season, if only because of the inevitable Lin vs. John Wall framing that tells us absolutely nothing about why this game was lost.

Lin can certainly change speeds beautifully, but the Wizards' big men never were able to prevent him from getting inside the free-throw line extended. The second part of the chain kept breaking down, and that is why the Wizards lost.
Jeremy Lin is good. But the Wizards as a team didn't show up, outside of Wall and Trevor Booker. Let's not get caught up in the narrative framing here.
